Types of paints in Nigeria

Types of paint in Nigeria

Everyone appreciates a beautiful house, mostly when painted with a good paint finish. After construction has been fully completed, a good paint finish is the icing on the cake.

The big decision then comes, what type of paint and color should be used , the colour you choose is just as important as the type of paint used, so be wise when selecting the type of finish as this will have an overall impact on the building aesthetics both internally and externally.

I am not here to talk about the quality of paints or products to consider, at least one has to know they type of paint finish you want for your walls before deciding on which products to buy.

As you know, my topics are usually limited to what is available in the Nigerian market.

Below we have a list of paints available in Nigeria, to enable you make a proper decision on your house painting project.

1.Emulsion paint: A water based paint for walls and ceilings, also called a flat paint, smooth to touch and economical, usually budget friendly. Recommended for use on well plastered or screeded wall.

2. Matt Emulsion: Similar to emulsion paint but with tiny little particles/aggregates which are not noticeable from afar until one gets very close to the wall.

3. Satin/silk paint/Egg shell : Its also a water based paint, very smooth to touch and with different types of sheen, Satin been the one with the most sheen. Its expensive than Emulsion paint due its washability and high coverage properties. A sheen paint after application on walls makes surface imperfections more visible , so if you want to hide surface imperfections , this is not the right paint to choose , most recommended on well plastered or smooth screeded walls.

4. Texcoat:
Its a textured paint, hence rough to touch, Its simply, in a lay mans understanding , its simply aggregates dispersed in Emulsion paint with more binder added. A texcoat paint covers minor surface imperfections. Its an affordable and budget friendly paint.

5. Gravitex paint:
A gravitex paint also spelt graphitex paint. GRAVITEX is a flexible acrylic based coating manufactured using 100% acrylic emulsions, quality graded quartz and other additives blended together to provide a natural coloured Render finish.
